If you decide to take your digital photographs to a shop to
print:
Save the original j-peg camera files to disk for safe keeping.
This is wise because:
- The disk you receive back from the shop with your prints
will have been altered to suit the shops printing machine
print profile and parameters of their particular RIP (Raster
Image Processor).
- The file resolution can also have changed.
This will mean you will no longer be able to replicate or enlarge
from that disk on your own printer.
Home Printing - Ink Saving:
When printing on high gloss paper some machines set themselves
to print best quality which is at a high dpi (dots
per inch).
Try changing the setting to normal. In most cases this will
not affect the visual quality and in some cases will give better
detail in the shadow end of the print as well as saving ink.
